The Braveheart Team: Professional Staff
Martha and John Furman
Martha is the President of Braveheart Grief Ministries, Inc, which incorporates Camp Braveheart. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. John has been an ordained pastor since 1986. He is semi-retired and works as a Chaplain for Gentle Shepherd Hospice. He received his Doctorate in Ministries from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC. John and Martha met at Clemson University. Martha received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO. They love the outdoors, mission trips to Uganda and a Sudanese Refuge Camp and traveling. They have two daughters, Riva and Brooks Cain, with their four children, are missionaries in Japan. Jenna and Martin Darby, with their four children, live in Richmond, VA.
Ashleigh and Will Dalton
Will is part of the therapeutic team and works as a psychologist in a medical setting with children teenagers, and families. He has a BS in Psychology from Mississippi State University, MA in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian State University, and PhD in Clinical Psychology from The University of Memphis. Will resides in Corinth, MS, with his wife, Ashleigh, and two children, Zela and Witt. Ashleigh is a pediatric physical therapist.Will enjoys playing guitar, running, biking, swimming, camping, and other outdoor adventures with his family as well as serving his community. He discovered Camp Braveheart while living and serving families in Brevard, NC. Will lost his brother, Cliff, in 2001 and has participated in youth grief camps since that time. He brings his entire family to experience and help out with camp.

Natalie and Jakob Schneider
Natalie serves at Braveheart as the Director of Staff Kids. She instructs them to serve the campers behind the scenes. They help with crafts, snacks, filling water balloons and many other ways. Natalie and Jakob are recently married and live in Roanoke, VA. She is the Children’s Ministry Assistant Director at Church of the Holy Spirit. Jakob is an industrial engineer at Revlon. They both volunteer with Young Life, love watching sunrises, sunsets and football.
Helen and Ray Deyerle
These two pretend they have retired but I have never seen two people work so hard and serve Christ by serving others. They are an integral part of the Braveheart Support Staff. They run everything behind the scenes that makes camp flow and the campers cared for. Helen heads up Celebrate Recovery at Church of the Holy Spirit and Ray works with KAIROS prison ministry.
Joy and Brown Dunlap
Brown Dunlap is part of the therapeutic team as a Licensed Professional Counselor and is in private practice in Greenville, SC. Joy heads up Braveheart Communications and Fundraising along with her full time career as a PA in the ER and mom. They have three beautiful children, Holcomb, Keller, and William. Brown enjoys intense wrestling matches with his kids, listening and playing music, art, being outside, starting and sometimes finishing projects. Joy is an incredible athlete and played soccer in college and enjoys running. Their family has made Braveheart a complete family.
Justin and Betsie Carlson
Justin and Betsie Carlson, with their three kids, Benjamin, Annalise, and Amos. Justin is the Worship Minister at Camp Braveheart. He is the founder and Director of a nonprofit called Beauty Table. He is on the worship team at Hope Presbyterian Church in Lexington, KY, Betsie flourishes in the holy calling of being a mother is the Director of Camper Mentorship. They believe strongly in the ministry of Braveheart and are committed to it being an integral part of their family rhythms. Justin enjoys songwriting, a good novel, artsy films, hiking, photography, talking about beauty, a good cup of coffee, and the simple joy of spending time with Betsie. Betsie enjoys running, slow and quiet mornings, hot tea, live music, the outdoors, and dates with Justin. Justin lost his mother to cancer in July of 1997. Betsie lost her father to Parkinson’s in August of 2022. Grief has shaped them in remarkable ways and they are humbled to be a part of the Braveheart family.
Alex and Hunter Hite
Alex is the Camp Coordinator and part of the therapeutic team. She has a BS in Psychology and Human Services from Montreat College. After finishing her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, she is currently doing her Residency for a Licensed Professional Counselor. Alex currently lives in Roanoke, VA, with her husband, Hunter. They both bring expertise and energy as they serve at camp. Alex and Hunter enjoy coaching CrossFit, soccer and volunteering with Young Life . They love being outdoors, exploring new places, and taking care of their chickens and ducks. Alex lost her father in 2007 and came to camp as a camper during its founding year. After experiencing the life change this ministry can provide, she continued to return as a camper before shifting into her new roles.
Lisa and Sean Radke
Lisa is the Student Ministry Assistant Director and Sean is the Director of Global Missions for Christian Fellowship Church. They live in Evansville, IN with their four children, Kai, Ian, Naomi and Kira. They have been married for 22 years. They both have been a tremendous asset to the Braveheart Team.
